Medicine is a constantly changing field. It is information dense, comprehensive knowledge matters, local knowledge matters, application of generalized knowledge (but specific to particular populations studied) to an individual matters.
* Wiki's support updating of important knowledge as it changes * Hypertext and the depth reading helps to more effectively address content at the right level for experienced providers, yet dive into additional knowledge for those who are less experienced * Federation will allow practitioners to save forked versions which they think are relevant or need modification Limitations of the current implemention of federated wiki would be: * inability to be notified of changes in the content from which you forked your page. For eg. a standards organization like the WHO or ACC may create a guideline. This will be made into a concise pragmatic treatment algorithm in the federated wiki. A physician may fork this version to include it in their practice wiki. If the central organization updates their page, it would be ideal if that physician could be notified of the update to the treatment algorithm * inability to see easy diff (medical algorithms can be long, being able to see an easy diff (as in github) would be very helpful, side by side comparison is a bit harder)
