Clinicians are trying to solve important clinical problems often with incomplete or conflicting information inside living adaptive systems that themselves have may have competing and interacting systems of which we are measuring only a few aspects. In this we must make decisions regarding diagnosis, tests and treatments.
By better understanding our own limitations we can
* limit errors we might make in decisions because of cognitive biases
* design support systems and tools that will help us to overcome these biases
* avoid designing support systems and tools that replicate (and sometimes amplify) these biases
